SSB Foils Narcotics Smuggling Attempt Near Indo-Nepal Border; Brown Sugar Seized, One Apprehended

 

In a significant success against cross-border narcotics trafficking, the alert Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of ‘E’ Company, Kadomani Jote, under the 41st Battalion, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Ranidanga, apprehended one individual and seized suspected Brown Sugar during a well-coordinated operation near the Indo-Nepal border.

The operation was conducted on 22 May 2026 at approximately 5:45 PM following specific intelligence inputs received through the SHQ Intelligence Branch. Acting swiftly on the information, the SSB team intercepted a suspicious individual near Sona Chandi village on NH-327C, under PS Kharibari, Darjeeling — approximately 10 kilometers from the Indo-Nepal Border near Border Pillar No. 98/19.

During the search operation, the team recovered:

103.8 grams of suspected Brown Sugar

One Vivo mobile phone

Photocopy of Voter ID card

Photocopy of PAN card

The recovered contraband was further examined using a drug detection kit and verified with the assistance of a trained sniffer dog, both indicating positive results for narcotic substances.

The apprehended individual has been identified as:

Md Sirajul Haque (34 years)

S/o Abdul Rehman

Resident of Mansura, Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal

Preliminary interrogation revealed indications of both backward and forward linkages, suggesting the existence of an organized narcotics supply network operating in the region. The accused was reportedly functioning as a courier and was tasked with delivering the consignment in Kharibari.

The operation was executed by a dedicated SSB team comprising:

05 Other Ranks personnel

Following completion of initial formalities, the apprehended individual along with the seized suspected Brown Sugar and associated items were handed over to PS Kharibari for further legal proceedings under the NDPS Act.
