Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Graces Closing Ceremony of 2nd All India Police Handball Cluster 2025–26 at SSB Siliguri

The Closing Ceremony of the 2nd All India Police Handball Cluster 2025–26, organized by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), was held with grandeur at the Frontier Headquarters, SSB, Siliguri, marking the successful conclusion of a prestigious national-level sporting event conducted from 19 to 23 January 2026.

The ceremony was graced by the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, as the Chief Guest, adding immense prestige to the occasion. The event witnessed the presence of Shri Sanjay Singhal, IPS, Director General, SSB, senior officers from Central Armed Police Forces and State Police organizations, representatives of the All India Police Sports Control Board, Shri Arvind Kumar, IPS, Special Director, Intelligence Bureau, Shri Vandan Saxena, Inspector General, Frontier HQ SSB Siliguri, along with distinguished guests, players, coaches, technical officials, and members of print and electronic media.

The program commenced with the National Anthem, followed by a welcome address by Shri Sanjay Singhal, IPS, who warmly welcomed the Chief Guest and participating teams. He highlighted that the tournament was not merely a sports competition, but a powerful platform to promote inter-force cooperation, discipline, camaraderie, and the spirit of healthy competition. He emphasized that the successful conduct of the event reflected the SSB’s organizational excellence and its core values of “Service, Security and Brotherhood.”

A total of 1,092 players—including 314 women and 778 men—along with 198 support staff, participated in the tournament.

Tournament Highlights

Women’s Handball Final:

SSB defeated Punjab Police to lift the title.

Men’s Handball Final:

CISF defeated Punjab Police to emerge champions.

Women’s Basketball Final:

Kerala Police defeated SSB to claim the championship.

Men’s Basketball Final:

Uttar Pradesh Police defeated Kerala Police to secure the title.

Individual Awards

Best Women Handball Player: Ms. Prachi (SSB)

Best Men Handball Player: Mandeep (CISF)

Best Women Basketball Player: Dolvi Sahu (SSB)

Best Men Basketball Player: Harsh Dagar (Uttar Pradesh Police)

The Hon’ble Governor presented trophies and awards to the winners and runners-up, lauding the players for their exceptional performance, discipline, and sportsmanship. The prize distribution ceremony generated high enthusiasm and served as a strong motivational force for all participants.

In his address, Shri Om Prakash Mathur expressed pride in attending a national-level sports event involving police forces from across the country. Drawing from his own experience as a national-level hockey player, he spoke about the importance of discipline, balance, and perseverance in an athlete’s life. He also commended the SSB leadership and personnel for flawlessly organizing the tournament.

The ceremony concluded with the formal declaration of the competition’s closure by the Hon’ble Governor, followed by the ceremonial lowering of the All India Police Handball Competition flag with full dignity and protocol.

Adding cultural vibrancy to the occasion, Sikkim Dance, Bihu Dance, a Dog Show, and an impressive Band Performance captivated the audience and marked a memorable end to the championship.
