Darjeeling MP Meets Centre’s Interlocutor to Advance Tripartite Talks

 

Darjeeling, [24-01-2026] The elected Member of Parliament from the Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency today met Shri Pankaj Kumar Singh ji, the Interlocutor and official representative of the Government of India, during his visit to the region to advance the ongoing tripartite dialogue involving the people of the Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars, the Government of India, and the Government of West Bengal.

Welcoming Shri Singh on behalf of the people of the region, the MP extended best wishes for the success of his mission, describing the visit as a significant step toward reinvigorating long-pending discussions aimed at a constitutional and lasting resolution.

Shri Pankaj Kumar Singh, a retired IPS officer and former Deputy National Security Advisor, brings extensive experience in managing sensitive negotiations and facilitating dialogue in complex environments. His first visit to the Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars was described as a fresh opportunity to align all stakeholders toward addressing the long-standing aspirations of the people of the region.

During the meeting, the MP highlighted the strategic and geopolitical importance of the region, which shares proximity with Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and China. Given these sensitivities, the Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars were emphasized as being of critical importance from a national security perspective.

The MP requested the Interlocutor to ensure that discussions remain fair, transparent, and equitable, free from political bias, and urged a renewed momentum in the negotiation process. Particular emphasis was placed on inclusive participation, ensuring that all stakeholders are adequately represented and heard.

“As the elected representative of the people of Darjeeling, I view this engagement as an important step toward achieving a constitutional solution that reflects the democratic aspirations of our region,” the MP stated, expressing optimism that all parties, including the Government of West Bengal, would engage constructively with the Interlocutor to help expedite the process.

The MP also expressed gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji for their continued support and commitment toward resolving the issues concerning the Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars.
